Moonee Valley Leader is reporting that a proposed 27-storey tower at the former Racecourse Hotel in Flemington should be rejected by Moonee Valley Council based on a report by consultants Robert McGauran and Bill Kusznirczuk.
It is interesting to see that Moonee Valley Council has sought the counsel of an architect and a planner outside of the council itself in relation to the proposed tower development at 1 Ascot Vale Road, Flemington. This project is of particular interest to myself as it is only about 500m from current abode (well for the next week at least) on a prominent hill location that has been neglected for a number of years.
I have been following this story closely for a while now and it will be interesting to see how it progresses – whether the developer chooses to take it down the VCAT route or take the advice of council’s consultants. As Robert McGauran of MGS Architects fame has stated, “The project has good intentions, but lacks rigorous outcomes.”
And in my opinion it’s the type of development that the site needs as it meets most of the criteria of Melbourne 2030 – close to public transport, amenities and within ten minutes of Melbourne’s CBD.
