Sunday 12 September 2010 was Sustainable House Day and I managed to get out and see three of the houses that were on display to the general public. As you can see from my photos below all three houses were completely different.
One is what I would describe as a bit of a ‘hippy’ house where the owners have pulled out all stops in terms of sustainability in renovating their existing home; another was a brand new house that a huge emphasis on passive solar design and intelligent use of sustainable materials; and the final one being an existing home that has slowly been more sustainable over its lifetime.
All provided an interesting insight of what measures people can take in making their homes more sustainable. What was also pleasing were the number of people out and about looking at the houses that I visited with a decent crowd of people at all of them. As for me and our house there were plenty of ideas that we can take from the houses we visited, it just may take some time and money to implement them.
